Maceo Cabrera Estevez holds a Masters degree from New College in Writing and Consciousness. Her writing has been published in Sojourner: The Women Forum, Riffrag Journal and InCulture Parent Magazine. Maceo is in the process of writing a memoir on her spiritual journey from Santeria to Islam.
Maceo is also the creator of the celebrated play Amor Cubano: In a bottle, a tube and a small packet and her alter ego Barbarita Perales. This play has been performed at La Peña Cultura Center in Berkeley, The Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts in San Francisco, The Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance, The Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Dominican College and a part of it on tour with Mangoes with Chili in 2007-2009.
Maceo lives in Oakland with her mountain man of a husband and her two sweet kids. She is learning how to become an urban homesteader.
